For rowers interested in developing and refining high-level technical skills, building a competitive fitness level, and traveling to national regattas. Both teams will race at local regattas, The Head of the Charles, and The Head of the Hooch (additional costs will apply to travel regattas).
OAR Potomac Racing (AM/PM): Operating out of the Thompson Boat Center, OAR Potomac Racing will focus on sweep rowing with sculling and small boat opportunities throughout the season. Experience and familiarity with sculling is helpful but not mandatory. Squads should expect to have a mix of morning and afternoon practices throughout the season. Head Coach: Tolsun Waddle.
OAR Anacostia Racing (AM/PM): OAR Anacostia Racing will be a hybrid program of sculling and sweep, with a focus on sculling while the water is warm. Some familiarity with sculling is expected, but not mandatory. The beginning of the year will be in the AM, transitioning to PM as the day shortens. Head Coach: Russell Topp
For rowers interested in a training and development-focused program. The goal is for all attendees to develop technical skill and speed on an individual basis.
OAR Potomac Training (PM): Operating out of the Thompson Boat Center, OAR Potomac Training will be primarily sweep; sculling may be an option depending on equipment availability and interest. Sculling experience is not required. The entire season will be in the PM. The team will race at 3 local regattas (no additional cost), but race lineups and performance will not be the focus. For new rowers interested in learning how to row. This program will start by teaching the basics and move into racing at local regattas against other novice boats (no additional cost).
